Bad Berleburg is the second largest municipality (concerning the area) in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is located in South Westphalia and has about 20.000 residents. As a “City of Villages” the city region consists of 23 villages with the city located in the centre.

Bad Berleburg is an ideal place to live for families and retirees as it is located at the edge of the Rothaargebirge in the best wooded area of Germany. It is near to the “Rothaarsteig” – the “way of the senses”- so Bad Berleburg is a very interesting place especially for visitors who love nature – just enjoy the superb landscape.

Recreational and cultural offerings and the numerous events promise disport for young and old.

 

The King is returning! Einvironmentalists work to repopulate the woods of the “Rothaargebirge” with free-living wisents (bison bonanus). This repopulation programme is unique in Western Europe and it will be a great experience for the visitors of the forests round Bad Berleburg. Marriaging in the “Wonderworld Rothaarsteig” will be an experience you will never forget. We offer a number of locations such as the castle of Bad Berleburg with its baroque ambiance or the farm yard “Hof Espe” for a rustic marriage. The “Orangerie” in the palace garden is definitely no ordinary place and you will have a real fairytale wedding in the “Lustschlösschen”. You prefer nature? No problem, the nature backdrop of the “Waldskulpturenweg” is a romantic place to get married. Apart from that we offer marriages deep down in the old slate mine, in the “Schmiede Arfeld” and in the knight´s hall of the “Grünewaldstuben” where you can experience traditions and old craftsmanship.

You can find the baroque castle in the centre of the historic old town which is located above the new city centre of Bad Berleburg (mentioned in the documents for the first time in 1258). It is the princely site of “Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg” and visitors are invited to have an insight into past epochs and the everyday life of a princely family. Private town-houses are decorated with local building materials such as wood or slate that defines the cityscape impressively.
